Aiosell vs OTA Insight (Lighthouse): Which Do You Need?

6 min read

Before comparing anything, one thing has to be said clearly. OTA Insight and Aiosell solve different problems, so “versus” is a little misleading. OTA Insight rebranded as Lighthouse in early 2024, and it’s a market intelligence platform. It tells you what’s going on around you: competitor rates, future demand, how you compare with other hotels. Aiosell is a platform that includes a pricing tool, a channel manager, a booking engine and a property management system, so it actually sets and sends your rates. Plenty of hotels end up with both. If you’re trying to decide which to buy first, or whether you need one at all, this is how I’d think about it. I’ve used a news report on the rebrand and Lighthouse’s public pages for their side, and aiosell.com for Aiosell. Lighthouse’s numbers are its own, as are Aiosell’s, so I’ll mark the claims.

What Lighthouse actually does

According to the rebrand coverage, Lighthouse brings several products under one roof. Rate Insight tracks competitor rates for hotels and short-term rentals. Market Insight watches future demand. Benchmark Insight compares your performance with your market and competitors. Parity Insight checks whether your prices are consistent across channels, and Distribution Insight looks at how API-based distribution performs. There’s also Destination Insight, which is built for tourism boards. A company representative said Lighthouse collects data on more than 400,000 hotels and over 3 million events that can affect demand, and that AI-based recommendations are planned. In plain words, it gives you a very good view of the market. What you do with that view is still up to you, or up to another tool. For a revenue manager who already has a process, that’s exactly what they need. For a small hotel with nobody in that role, it can turn into a lot of charts that nobody acts on.

What Aiosell does instead

Aiosell’s revenue management system takes action. It prices rooms on an occupancy scale, adjusts for weekday, month, event and season, and pushes the new rates straight to your OTAs through its channel manager. Competitor rates and market demand are inputs. You can tell it to move above or below certain thresholds when rivals change, and you set a minimum and maximum so it never goes wild. Rates can change several times a day and can be set more than a year ahead. So where Lighthouse hands you a map, Aiosell drives within the limits you set. Hotels with an existing pricing process but wanting sharper data lean toward Lighthouse. Hotels that don’t have a process yet usually need the driver first. A good map doesn’t help if nobody is driving, and a driver with no map still gets somewhere, only slower.

Where the two overlap

There’s a real overlap in rate shopping. Both look at competitor prices, but they use them differently. Lighthouse treats competitor data as the product, with benchmarking, parity checks and market reports around it. Aiosell treats it as one of several signals feeding a price. I couldn’t confirm from the pages I read how deep Aiosell’s competitor tracking goes compared with Lighthouse, so if that’s your main need, ask for a side-by-side demo with your own comp set. Parity is similar. Some Aiosell reviewers mention rate parity as a benefit of syncing channels from one place, but that isn’t the same as a dedicated parity monitoring product. Be honest about which problem you’re really trying to fix. Buying a full intelligence suite to solve a pricing habit problem is an expensive mistake. If you can describe your problem in one sentence, like we never know when rivals drop their rates, the right tool is usually clearer. Vague problems lead to expensive purchases.

What it costs

Lighthouse doesn’t list prices in the sources I checked, and quotes usually depend on property size and which products you choose, so ask for a written breakdown. A small hotel might not need every Insight product, and it’s worth asking which ones you can start with. Aiosell publishes its pricing. Revenue Pro, which includes the pricing tool, channel manager, booking engine, and reviews management, is $7 per room per month up to 10 rooms, $6 for 11 to 30, $5 for 31 to 50, and $4 above, and a pricing tool on its own is a $5 per room add-on. Check the pricing page before you rely on any of these figures, since plans change. Also ask Lighthouse how many competitors you can track, how often the data refreshes, and how many users you can add, because those limits affect the real price.

Which one do you need first?

Ask yourself three things. Do I have a pricing tool or a daily routine that works? Do I have a revenue manager who needs deeper market data? Is my channel setup under control? If the answers are no, no and not really, start with a platform like Aiosell and fix the basics. If the answers are yes, yes, and yes, Lighthouse can sharpen what you already do. If you’re a group with a central team, you’ll likely want both. Either way, give any new tool a trial period and compare it against the same months last year. Keep it fair. Change one thing at a time, so you know what caused any difference. And write down the date you switched, so a good or bad month can’t be blamed on the wrong thing.

For a smaller or mid-size hotel, the practical order is often pricing and distribution first, market data second. Aiosell puts the pricing tool in the same login as the property management system, channel manager, and booking engine, and it offers a 15-day free trial, so you can see your own rates move before spending on anything else. Its site claims AI pricing can lift revenue by around 30%, which is the company’s figure and not a guarantee. Test it, log your overrides, and add market intelligence later if you feel the gap. You’ll know when that day comes, because you’ll keep wishing you could see what the hotel down the road is doing.
